Summer Surf School TeamOur wonderful surfers are seasoned CPR/First Aid-certified teachers, and healthy role models for children. Caring and focused, they are stoked about surfing and ready to share their love of the ocean surrounding this island paradise. Whether you are a beginner or ready for more advanced training, we have a team member who is just right for you.
Phoebe Linstead
I have grown up spending my summers on BHI, which is where I learned to surf. I just graduated from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. Bald Head Island has instilled a love for nature and the beach that I enjoy sharing with others. For the past three years, I have managed and run Sandy Backpacks Surf School, and I am excited to help start up BHI Academy Surf School to continue to provide people of all ages with outdoor enrichment and help grow their love for the ocean and surfing.
Eddie Hussey
From Raleigh, NC, I learned to surf in Topsail, NC, and have been surfing in BHI since I was ten. This will be my first summer teaching surf lessons and I’m excited to share what I love to do with others. Besides surfing I like to hunt, fish, and play golf. I’m excited to teach this summer!
Felix Williams
Born and raised in Greensboro, NC, I spend my summers on BHI teaching lessons and hanging with friends. I have been teaching surfing for three years and love being able to share the sport I am addicted to with anyone who wants to learn. I plan on attending the University of Kentucky in the fall to study international business. I am beyond stoked for this summer!
Fritz Veltman
From Charlotte, NC, I’ve been lucky enough to spend every summer on BHI since I was born. I quickly fell in love with surfing when I was nine. I’ve been teaching surf lessons for the past few summers and I’m excited to continue this summer. I just graduated from a boarding school in California, and next year I plan to attend UC Berkeley. Over the years, I’ve spent a lot of time surfing on the West Coast, and despite the waves being better there, BHI remains my favorite place to surf. I’m excited to share the opportunity to surf in this special place with all of you!
Abigail Hano
Originally from Winston-Salem, NC, I recently graduated from Denison University in Ohio and am heading to Drexel’s School of Law in Philadelphia this fall. For several years, I was a counselor at a sleep-away sports camp. Last summer was my first time on the island, but I have enjoyed learning everything about this beautiful place. I am excited to bring together my love for the beach and teaching kids to boost this program!
